The October 29 DANA
On October 29, 2024, the Valencian Community in Spain experienced a catastrophic weather event known as a DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos), resulting in torrential rains that caused severe flooding and led to the deaths of 236 people. The disaster overwhelmed infrastructure, destroyed homes and vehicles, and sparked serious scrutiny over emergency response measures and political decisions.
Actions of Valores
Valores president Alfonso Galdón emphasized that “justice must be done for those whose lives were taken,” arguing that the tragedy could have been avoided if essential infrastructure had been in place and if the central government had assumed command immediately, as required, given the red alerts issued by AEMET that morning and the cross-regional nature of the emergency. Valores firmly believes the disaster reveals massive institutional negligence and lethal administrative dis-coordination.
A law firm will handle the legal action, aiming to uncover the chain of omissions, decisions, and failures that led to one of Spain’s deadliest disasters in decades. Valores has made it clear: this is not a symbolic gesture but a determined effort to hold those in power accountable for failing to meet their legal and ethical responsibilities.
