Calling for the immediate alleviation of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza

In light of the rapidly deteriorating conditions in Gaza, we call on the international community and the Israeli government to act with urgency and resolve to address the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding before our eyes. Thousands of civilians—many of them children—are facing hunger, disease, and a total collapse of basic infrastructure.

The international community has a moral and legal obligation to ensure that essential humanitarian aid— food, water, medicine, and other life-saving resources— is provided to those in desperate need, and the Israeli government needs to make sure that aid reaches them safely. We echo recent global voices, including that of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has acknowledged during his visit in Scotland yesterday that “starvation is happening in Gaza”. This fact demands our attention, and more importantly, our action.

The recent open letter by the Delegation for Relations with Israel in the European Parliament to the members of the Knesset acknowledges both the security concerns of Israel and the profound human cost of this ongoing conflict. Their message reminds us that while we affirm the right of Israel to exist and to defend itself against Hamas atrocities, we must not lose sight of the human suffering in Gaza. The members of the delegation ask the Israeli legislators to ensure sufficient aid is allowed into the Gaza strip and for it to reach the civilians safely. Additionally, the letter insists on creating safe humanitarian zones where civilians and aid workers are not to be targeted by the military, and which zones should not serve as a “prelude to the forced relocation of the Palestinian civilian population from Gaza.”

As the only explicitly Christian European party, our belief that people are created by God and possess inherent dignity compels us to speak up during this untenable situation: “Human dignity is not negotiable, and it does not stop at borders. As Christians, we must stand for the God-given worth of every person, whether in Jerusalem or Gaza, and uphold peace, justice, and mercy in our advocacy. Civilians are not collateral—they are people created in the image of God, deserving of dignity and compassion” emphasized Valeriu Ghilețchi, President of the European Christian Political Party (ECPP).

We join the members of the European Parliament in calling for a unilateral military pause in order to alleviate the humanitarian crisis. In the long-term, we call on all parties involved to intensify efforts toward a political solution that respects the security of all peoples and paves the way for a peaceful and just future for all in the region.

Let our commitment to human dignity be louder than the drums of war.
