ECPM Becomes European Christian Political Party (ECPP) and Launches New Website

April 11, 2025 – The European Christian Political Movement (ECPM) has officially changed its name to the European Christian Political Party (ECPP) and launched a new website: https://ecpp.eu/. This renaming aims to strengthen ECPP’s position in European politics and highlight its official status as a European political party. These developments reflect the party’s continued growth and impact.

ECPM Becomes European Christian Political Party (ECPP) and Launches New Website

Valeriu Ghileţchi, ECPP President, explains: “As most political parties, we started as a movement. Over the past twenty years, we grew into a fully-fledged political party. Our new name reflects this evolution and reinforces our commitment to engage European politics from a Christian perspective, founded on human dignity and relational thinking rooted in being created in the image of God. As the European Christian Political Party, we strive for a Europe that safeguards justice and peace, where people are free and safe, and where governments serve their citizens.”

Secretary General Maarten van de Fliert adds: “Changing our name does not change who
we are but will enhance our cooperation at the European level with MEPs, member parties,
associates and like-minded people and organisations. It’s a step towards making ECPP
more professional and effective.”

ECCP’s history

ECPP’s journey began in 2002 at the “For a Christian Europe” conference in Lakitelek,
Hungary, where Christian political leaders explored opportunities for uniting to promote
Christian values in Europe. This led to the creation of a platform for Christian parties and
organizations, with the adoption of the “Values for Europe” vision document in 2003.

Officially registered in 2005 as ECPM in The Netherlands, the alliance gained the status of a European political party in 2010. Since then, it has had continuous representation in the
European Parliament. Currently, four MEPs represent ECPP at the European level.

European Christian Political Party (ECPP)

The European Christian Political Party (ECPP) is the only European political party explicitly
promoting Christian values in politics. Our mission is to elevate Christians’ voices from all
over Europe, to empower them with tools, resources and connection so that they can
effectively and successfully engage with their governments and communities and make an
impact. Our party gathers like-minded individuals, parties and organizations from all over
Europe. Learn more about ECPP’s values, program and activities at https://ecpp.eu/.
