Publication of Brochure ‘Europe: We Decide!’

In Európa, my rozhodneme! (Europe: We Decide!), Michal Považan offers a Christian-conservative critique of the European Union’s current trajectory and lays out a vision for its reform. As a board member of the European Christian Political Movement (ECPM) and with the support of its think tank Sallux, Považan argues that the EU has drifted away from its founding values and increasingly emphasizes bureaucracy, ideological uniformity, and power politics over peace and cooperation.

Publication of Brochure ‘Europe: We Decide!’

The publication begins with an overview of the EU’s history, institutions, and foundational principles—democracy, human dignity, freedom, and rule of law. However, it suggests that these values are now selectively applied and often used to promote progressive agendas that conflict with Europe’s Christian roots.

Považan calls for a renewed focus on subsidiarity and a confederal model of governance, where member states retain more sovereignty and bureaucratic centralization is reduced. He encourages regional cooperation, such as through the Visegrad Four or Benelux, rather than imposing universal solutions from Brussels.

The brochure outlines specific policy areas for reform. It stresses the protection of human dignity—opposing surrogacy, defending the elderly and the sick—and calls for renewed support of the natural family unit consisting of a man, woman, and children. In education, it defends parental rights and opposes ideological interference. On migration, it emphasizes tackling root causes in countries of origin and ensuring both security and compassion. In terms of EU defense and security, it supports military cooperation and strong borders, while maintaining NATO as a key partner.

From a Christian perspective, the brochure defends religious freedom, especially for persecuted Christians globally, and supports freedom of conscience in healthcare, particularly regarding opposition to abortion.

Ultimately, Považan urges a return to the Christian principles on which the EU was founded—freedom, truth, solidarity, and human dignity—and calls on citizens to actively shape Europe’s future through the democratic process, especially by voting in European elections.

The author, Michal Považan, is a member of the ECPM board, former board member of Sallux (ECPM Foundation) and a long-time advocate for Christian democratic principles in European politics. His extensive experience includes academic, governmental, and political engagement at both national and European levels.

This publication is the result of a collaborative effort between the European Christian Political Movement (ECPM), the Kresťanská únia. It reflects a shared commitment to a Europe rooted in Christian values and democratic responsibility.
