Statement on the Fourth Anniversary of Russia’s War of Aggression Against Ukraine

Today marks four years since Russia launched its full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. What began as an unjustified invasion has become a prolonged and brutal assault on a sovereign nation, causing immense human suffering, the destruction of cities, the displacement of millions, and countless innocent victims. We remember those who have lost their lives and stand in solidarity with all who continue to suffer because of this war.

Statement on the Fourth Anniversary of Russia’s War of Aggression Against Ukraine

We honour the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian heroes — the soldiers and citizens who have demonstrated extraordinary bravery. Their steadfast defence of their homeland, freedom, and democratic future is truly heroic.

ECPP MEP Reinis Pozņaks:

The outcome of this war will determine the world in which our children and grandchildren will live. Their history books will say that Ukrainians are a heroic people, that they fought against overwhelming odds to defend freedom, independence, and European values. I hope it will also say that Russia was the aggressor and was severely punished for its crimes. As Europe, we still have a choice as to what the history books will write about us. We must do whatever is necessary to ensure that this war does not reach its five-year anniversary.”

We recognise that Ukraine is not only defending itself but also defending Europe and the rules-based international order. The world cannot be governed by force and military power, but by international law that respects the sovereignty of states, their territorial integrity under international law and human rights. Ukraine deserves a just peace as the foundation for long-term security and stability. This also means that justice must be served and those responsible for war crimes must be held accountable.

The European Union must remain united in its support for Ukraine, demonstrating a clear commitment to peace and justice. Only by standing together can we defend our shared values, effectively support Ukraine, and safeguard peace on our continent.

ECPP President Valeriu Ghilețchi:

“In Moldova, my home country, we understand that our security depends on Ukraine’s strength. As long as Ukraine resists, Moldova is safe. Ukraine deserves our unwavering support. We call upon the EU institutions and the United States to provide full support to Ukraine. Today is also the Ukrainian National Day of Prayer. Let us pray for an end to this inhumane war and for a lasting peace that guarantees freedom, sovereignty, and security.”

The ECPP continues to support Ukraine’s right to self-defence and calls for sustained European cooperation. We hope and pray for a swift end to this war, but peace must be both just and lasting, rooted in justice, truth, and respect for human dignity. Any peace that ignores justice or rewards aggression would merely sow the seeds of future conflict.

Slava Ukraini!
